We’re usually about words, but today, let’s start with some numbers.
Today, August 24th 2022 marks…
Behind all these numbers there are people. There are the people fighting in the battle fields, the people fighting to navigate a host country with a new language, and the people learning Ukrainian as part of the fight to preserve the beautiful language and culture.
Behind Drops, there are also people, 33 people to be exact. Although we’re a small team, we want to continue to do our part to support. Aside from the ongoing Ukrainian Refugee Program and Ukrainian Language Course, we’ll be adding Ukrainian as a core app language in the coming weeks. This means Native speakers will be able to set their app to Ukrainian, making it easier to navigate and learn.
We’ll also be releasing a collaboration with Ukraine Pride, an organization working to support LGBTQ+ rights.
In a past post, we recommended organizations you can donate to. Donations are helpful, but there are many creative ways you can support Ukrainians.
Hire Ukrainian Freelancers
One of our teammates recently got married, and included Ukrainian professionals in the preparations for her special day. From the gown, to the photography and cake, the event was orchestrated with the help of Ukrainian refugees whose businesses have been disrupted by the war. If you have a photo shoot or event coming up, consider hiring Ukrainian freelancers, and encourage your friends or employers to do the same.
Adopt Ukrainian Animals
Animal shelters in Ukraine have faced the same struggles as any other Ukrainian organizations. Consider adopting an animal or donating to help buy food and supplies.
Attend or Host Ukrainian Events in Your Community
From photography exhibits featuring Ukrainian photographers to singing traditional songs in the park, Ukrainians are organizing a number of events in their host countries to increase awareness and community.
Last but not least, don’t underestimate the power of language. If you speak Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Czech, Romanian, Moldovan, or German, consider donating your translation services!
